Meira Ahmemulic

Meira Ahmemulic is an artist based in Göteborg. Most of her work, be it video, text, actions or curatorial practices, uses the city as point of departure. Ahmemulic is a collector of signs, tracks, tags, stories, encounters, objects, relations, coincidences and occurrences. Walking through the city is for Ahmemulic an act of writing, the city being a language in itself and her artistic practice can be seen as a constant dialogue with the city as place, space and phenomenon.
The book “City of Names” (Glänta Produktion, 2008) is one example of how this ongoing collecting and editing process can manifest. The book describe the rise and fall of a city based on tags – the names of graffiti artist – and operates in the field between prose, urban studies, journalistic experiment and artist writing.
